History
Janet Stewart sings Country music. She and sister Doris were
the Havens Sisters. When I was young I always loved Western music and at 12 years I
told my parents I wanted a guitar. So they got me one for $10.00
which is the same one I have used for the past sixty years. (A few
minor fixings) I got a book and taught myself to play but mostly
I play by ear hear a song then play it. I always listened to country
music and wrote the words down as I heard the songs. Then I
would learn it and teach my sister. We sang a lot at amateur
show contests. At age 16 my mom and dad decided to see if we could get on
WDLA radio station. We had two businesses sponsor us, Walton
music store and a Garage in Downsville. We had an half hour
show every Saturday morning at 10:30 for two years. We both
sang at the infirmary, then I got married and moved. Then I had
no way to get together with my sister. Moved to Bovina I started
singing for City Borders at boarding homes and sang at the Bovina
Church. When our five children got older I sang at all their
weddings. Also I sang at funerals and parties. I sing now and
then at parties and at the Bovina Church.
