So Grainbelt actually played it's first official gig back in 1997 at The Lark Tavern which isn't actually on Lark St. but IS a tavern, so there ya go. I think we might have billed ourselves as The Grainbelt or Grainbelts or Deep Purple, something like that. The band name is written on some live show tapes that I have in a drawer duct taped shut. You'll never hear those shows pal. But imagine if you can 2 drummers, a couple guitars, no bassist for miles around, and a broken heart that hurt worse than Chuck Wempner looked. It was the classic "more people on stage than in the audience" deal. Not too cohesive and not very rehearsed but it was fun. So much fun that Grainbelt, in one form or another, only played about 5 shows from '97 to right this very moment. Yeah, that was fun. So I formed a band called Coal Palace Kings, put out a buch of singles (you know, vinyl. hello? hello?), some CD's, toured up and down the East Coast and even went to Belgium and The Netherlands just so I would be able to say I've been ignored on both sides of the Atlantic! And at the end of last year after ALL that success I put a pillow over the face of Coal Palace Kings and nobody on either side of the Atlantic seemed to notice cuz they were too busy ignoring us. Oh well, that's my story and I'm gonna attempt to stick to it. Believe it or not, after all those years of sitting in the shed, I checked the sparkplugs on Grainbelt and with a few pulls the damned thing fired right up. It's been stream lined a bit and there's more stage room, it sounds pretty cohesive if I do say so myself. And I do. Hope to see you out. HG
